i had a 1996 s-10 blazer (not pickup) and the fuel filter was located on the drivers side just in front of the gas tank. the fuel line runs parallel and very close to the frame. it is metal (about a 1/4 inch thick) and runs from the fuel tank to the engine. the filter is a small round cylinder on that line about a foot or two from the fuel tank. hope this helps.

side note... the fuel PUMP however is located inside the gas tank (which is rare) and they are nearly impossible for a do-it-yourselfer to replace. always make sure you have at least 1/4 tank of gas because it wears out the pump when it's not submerged in gasoline. i learned all this the hard way.
